Corrales presents a distinctive holiday event on Saturday, November 23rd, at 1 p.m. Corrales Road will become a scene of celebration for the yearly Christmas de los Caballos parade. This event stands out as New Mexico’s sole observance dedicated entirely to horses and mules. The Corrales Equestrian Advisory Commission, the Village of Corrales, Corrales Horse and Mule People, and the Corrales Fire Department have joined forces to organize this event, offering a warm start to the holiday season.
This cherished celebration continues to grow each year, drawing visitors from neighboring communities who come to admire the equestrian artistry and enjoy a festive, family-friendly afternoon that truly embodies the spirit of Corrales. It also supports the Corrales Fire Department’s Annual Holiday Drive.
Parade Route, Details & How to Participate
The parade starts at 1 p.m. from Wagner’s Farm Stand at 5000 Corrales Road. Participants will feature horses and mules adorned with holiday elements such as ribbons, bells, and lights. The parade will proceed along Corrales Road, finishing at TopForm Arena on Jones Road. There, attendees can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Equestrians wishing to participate should arrive at Wagner’s Farm Stand by 12:30 p.m. To enter the parade, a new, unwrapped toy donation is requested for the Fire Department’s holiday drive. Monetary contributions are also welcome from all, ensuring the event gives back to families in need during the holiday season.
Costume Contest & Community Significance
A costume competition for the most creatively dressed equestrians will add to the enjoyment, with prizes from the Corrales Village Mercantile. This parade is significant to our community, reflecting Corrales’ identity as the “Horse Capital of New Mexico.” It is a valued custom that unites residents and highlights the strong bond with their horses and mules.
The Corrales Equestrian Advisory Committee, Corrales Horse and Mule People, and the Corrales Fire Department have sponsored this event, with additional financial assistance from the Corrales Bed and Breakfast Lodgers Tax Board.
