Looking for a rewarding way to give back to your community and connect with your neighbors? Your local library is calling for helping hands! Libraries are often central to a community, providing not just books and information but also a space for learning and connection. In many cases, the smooth operation of these vital institutions relies heavily on the dedication of passionate volunteers. With a motto like “The Library That the People Built,” it’s clear that community involvement is at the core of how things get done, allowing the library to offer a wealth of resources and services that might otherwise be unavailable.
Become a Valued Volunteer at Your Local Library
Volunteers are essential to our library, stepping in to assist with a diverse range of tasks that keep everything running efficiently. From warmly greeting patrons and managing check-ins and check-outs at the front desk to meticulously shelving returned books, processing new materials, and even assisting with the popular seed library, volunteers contribute in countless ways. This involvement not only supports the library’s mission but also offers residents a fantastic opportunity to become actively involved, forge new friendships, and gain access to many books, movies, and other materials. It’s a chance to be a part of something truly special.
Be the Welcoming Face of the Library
There are several fulfilling ways to lend your time and talents at the library. As a Desk Worker, you’ll be the welcoming face of the library, assisting patrons with check-outs and shelving. We have opportunities for regular shifts, typically 1.5 to 4 hours once a week or twice a month, as well as openings for desk workers to fill in when needed. If organizing and ensuring everything is in its right place is more your style, our Shelf Reader role involves a minimum commitment of two hours per month to keep our collection tidy. These flexible shifts can be completed any time the library is open, making it easy to fit into your schedule.
Engage in Diverse, Hands-On Activities
Beyond the regular desk and shelving duties, we also have exciting opportunities for those interested in Special Projects. These varied tasks can include labeling shelves, reorganizing collections, assisting with book sales, and conducting inventory. For those passionate about local produce and gardening, the Corrales Community Seed Library is always in need of volunteers to package and label seeds year-round. We also offer training sessions for existing volunteers, covering topics like using the public catalog and placing holds.
